Ok, so I have ducks at the moment, im getting chickens next year, and geese the year after that, and maybe turkeys to. But I would like to know as much as I can about them before I get anywhere close to getting any lol. I have been looking on the internet, and I hear that broad brested bronze turkeys are good for meat? Is that true? I really like this breed and am doing a bunch of research. But I also would like to hear some stuff from my BYC friends too!

Ok these are the first few qeustions...

Can turkeys eat chicken layer pellets, or do they need something else?
How do you house turkeys?
Can they live with/near chickens? I hear they can get "black head" from chickens? Is that true?
Can they fly?
Do their wings need to be clipped?
Are they mean?
Can they be near ducks?
How many eggs do turkeys lay a year?
How hard is it to incubate their eggs?
Are they like geese and only lay in spring?

Sorry, Im just trying to gather as much info as I can in the next few years... I know, its not gonna be a while till I get them, but im excited and want to know as much as posible before I get any

Thanks!

Oh thank you soooooooooooo much! So can I feed them flock raiser? Cause thats what im gonna be feeding my ducks and geese, and chickens and stuff.... And if I keep them in a dog kennal with hareware wire on top, is that ok?

Yes, you can switch to flock raiser when they are mature. Until then you will need the game bird starter with the high protein content.

Consider heritage turkeys. They are much more graceful and attractive than broad-breasted turkeys. They have plenty of meat on them if you let them live long-enough, and they have wonderful personalities if you decide not to butcher all of them.

Thanks for asking these questions!! My sister is giving me a couple turkeys and I needed to know the answers you got...
