I'm glad you joined us!

There are many breeds to choose from, and I would definitely recommend checking out the breed reviews that Wyandottes7 linked to. However, some breeds that I would especially recommend include Wyandottes, Australorps, Orpingtons, Easter Eggers, Plymouth Rocks, and Sex-links. All of those breeds are usually hardy, friendly, and very productive.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to our flock. The best breed for you depends on what you want in a breed. Murray McMurray has an excellent "chick selector" tool at https://www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/chick_selector.html to help you determine the best breed for you. Just be sure and click on "show more characteristics." Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Whatever breed you decide to get, good luck with your flock.

Welcome to BYC!

My Buff Orpingtons panted in the heat out here when it got into the 90's, but my Black Australorps (and Easter Eggers) tolerate our summers here just fine. We have a spate of 90 degree weather for a couple of weeks then back to cooler temps usually. In your heat, you may wish to avoid Buffies.

McMurray Hatchery has a chick selector tool that may be useful to you on their website.
