Hello everyone.
New to the forum so please bare with me while I figure this out!
Also buckle in for a very thorough intro, not often I can babble about my chook obsession
I've come to BYC a couple times over the years, it's a great resource that I now know I haven't been taking advantage of! The last month or so I've come here looking for various thing (mostly information in regards to chick related health issues), and decided it'd be well worth my while taking the time to join.
A bit about me.
I am an all round animal lover, major bird nerd, and of cause chicken lover.
I've been around chickens probably my whole life, my first chicken of my very own was a little black silkie hen. I loves learning about things related to animals, and have a particular interest in things related to chicken health/medical care.
I recently lost almost all of my flock to foxes. Nearly all my breeding birds and most of my pets. I reached a point where I almost gave up on keeping chickens entirely. But I can be pretty determined and will have to basically start from scratch with my breeding.
My current chickens include:
(Adults)
Two Buff Sussex roosters, One Buff Sussex Hen, One Frizzle X Sussex Hen, And two Hens whose breeds I really don't know but don't mind as they're just pets.
There's also a trio of Polish around whom belong to a family member, Sorry to you polish owners/lover, but I am not a fan of polish chickens!
(Chicks)
I have nine Buff Sussex mixed gender older chicks (I am unsure of age as I bought them).
One 7 week old Buff sussex chick, One 7 week old RIR.
Four 3 week old "Mystery" chicks (supposed to be buff Sussex, but I think the EE roo I had is actually the father)
One polish chick.
I also have more Buff Sussex eggs in the incubator, due to hatch tomorrow, and a dozen Barnevelder eggs due next week.
Previously I've kept silkies and showgirls (lost my last two silkies to the foxes, and my eggs weren't fertile
), and I used to own Barnies as well as light Sussex.
Outside of my chickens I have four California quail, and a variety of other pets.
If you've read this far thank you very much! I am glad to be here, sorry for talking your ears off, looking forward to reading up and learning all I can! Because I made you read all that I'll be sure I add some pics.
