I have had backyard chickens for over 40 years. I always loved the sound of chickens from a very young girl on my grandfather's farm. Their clucking was always comforting. I have around 12 chickens now with one being a rock/americana combination. Always have to have a rooster.
Live in the country in NC, and have a small farm of my own.
This has been very hard for my chickens. We had my best rooster attacked by the neighbor's dog, and was being nursed for about 4 months until he died. Have had mites for the first time, vitamin deficiency with another chicken, and various other things. I have a flock of Marans, Dominique's,Rocks, Silkies, and my first Buff. Also have four guineas.
Hobbies are my farm, animals, horseback riding,my grandchildren, and family.

:frowWelcome to BYC!
Sorry to hear about your poor rooster. :hugs
Lots of things in your intro caught my eye.
I live in NC now too.
South east.
And
I too, find the sounds chickens make to be very comforting.
Long before I had my own chickens, a lady I know allowed me to visit with her flock whenever I "needed" to, after I suffered a terrible loss.
I spent a good part of that winter sitting silently on a stump in the middle of her chicken yard with my eyes closed, just listening to them. They really helped get me through.
