Sorry to hear about your poor rooster.
Lots of things in your intro caught my eye.
I live in NC now too.
South east.
And
I too, find the sounds chickens make to be very comforting.
Long before I had my own chickens, a lady I know allowed me to visit with her flock whenever I "needed" to, after I suffered a terrible loss.
I spent a good part of that winter sitting silently on a stump in the middle of her chicken yard with my eyes closed, just listening to them. They really helped get me through.

Nice to meet you. Thanks for the reply. It seems that chickens are help in many things.
Stress reliever, food (LOL), and just plain fun to watch. It is just a simple way to enjoy the wonderful world of animals.

I have the same hobbies(but no grandkids yet). Hopefully in a few years I'll be able to join that club when my daughters done with college.
