Hello I'm DasKhan, I currently live in Indiana but I'm from Florida and about three months ago I bought 15 chickens from auction (turned out there was 17 not 15 woo free birds) but I've resently hatched 34 more learned everything on here read threads like a hawk. Full grown I have two black orpingtons (1roo 1 hen 6 buff orpington's all hens the rest are road island reds with one I'm not really sure what she is 1rir Roo been loving them so much I'm thinking about turning it into a business

Hi, welcome to BYC!

It sounds like 'chicken math' got you good, lol. Nice to hear you're enjoying them so much! If you have questions, feel free to ask.

Good to have you join us!

Chicks are about 2.5-3 weeks old they carried on hatch days can't really tell how many males to females yet can really tell the breeds either most look mixed the 1 black orp although not the dominant, he gets more action he's a sneaky bugger I tried to seperate what I thought was the black orps(chicken joe) and the rir(Henry the first) but a few are a toss up

What sort of business are you considering starting with your flock? Unfortunately, turning a profit in chickens with egg sales, etc. can be a bit tricky for a smaller scale producer. Are your birds good, quality breeding stock? If so, selling hatching eggs can increase the price per egg you can expect to have come in - as can hatching chicks and selling them either as day olds or, if you are able to do so, started birds as a lot of folks will pay the premium to avoid having to brood the babies themselves and prefer chickens that are coop ready and/or near the point of lay

Well basically I incubated 38 eggs and 34 hatched I think the ratio of breeding is great plus a lot of people around say they are plump for there breed so I think they are healthy for breeding I have 15 hens and get 12-13 eggs a day so I assume I'm on the good size I'm looking to increase to about 2k birds if a business is sought after I'm thinking full scale because it's really the only thing I enjoyed of course I'm looking for a load more land eventually when I figure stuff out like funding

And when I kinda mentioned they are hard to identify it's because I'm pretty sure most are mixed because they are all housed together like there's one that's all black but has a golden head... So I think few are pure bred
