Hello, new member, soon to be chicken owner near central Ohio!

I ordered all female chicks, no roosters, no straight runs. No desire to hatch chicks (yet) and dont want to deal with the noise of a rooster. My neighbor already hates me and my desire to have chickens and bees. A rooster might throw her overboard.

You are very wise.) I don't have a neighbor that's a problem, but for my own comfort, I currently have 25 hens and no roosters. I get loads of eggs without all the aggression, fights, biting and feather plucking, crowing in the middle of the night, drop off in egg production, and over-breeding and battering of hens that goes along with having roosters (especially too many). My hens are stress free and enjoying life without a rooster. Good luck in getting loads of eggs.

Hi and welcome to BYC!! What kind of chickens did you order? Having them in the orchard will help with bug control but you have to be careful that they don't scratch too many holes in the dirt to have dust baths!! You will really enjoy your chickens, though.

It was on the first page, I ordered a easter egger, speckled sussex, salmon faverolle, golden laced wyandotte, gold buff, dominique, black australorp, white sultan, and meyer's meal maker. I only have 2 full grown fruit trees at the moment, the rest are baby trees. I got one single pear off one baby tree this year, haha!

Hi and welcome to BYC. I think you will love having your pet chicks. I would read the emergency thread sometimes, and learn all you can about possible illnesses, since it will teach you how not to have problems. Here is a link to read about the different aspects of having chickens: https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center
Yes, thank you! I feel pretty read up on the care of chickens and the coop building, just need to read more about their illnesses & problems they may have.
