First of all id like to thank everyone here for all of the tips and knowledge I've gained through these boards. I am raising my first group of backyard chickens in a prefab coop that I altered a bit. I'm writing my first thread because I would love to hear suggestions or tips for making my chicks happy.
I am keeping my five chickens in a coop in the backyard with hopes of letting them free range in the future. My only concern is I have neighbors over every fence. My chickens are 6 weeks old and have been in the coop for a week and now have had access to the run for a week. They are going back inside at night by themselves.
I added some ventilation and a door to the coop. It is situated on a bed of large river rocks covering a French drain. I can't imagine any predators digging in because it took me 2 days with a shovel to clear a few inches of rock to level the cement blocks. The main predators I'm worried about are hawks, possums, raccoons and stray cats. I've been using sand in the run but it has been a little messier than I like because they are doing a good job mixing with the soil underneath.
I am attaching some pictures of my set up and would love help. I don't have anyone I could ask- everyone gives me the same crazy look when I tell them I have chickens!
I'm adding some pics of the chickens as well hoping you can verify they are all pullets! If I have a roo I will unfortunately have to rehome!
Thanks to you all and I'm excited to join the boards.
