Hi,
I just recently found this forums and decided to sign up today. I live in Eugene. A couple years ago, I had a couple of chickens for a few months, and then gave them away. It was a great experience. I gave them up because I travel a lot. My city style chicken raising encouraged a neighbor to start keeping chickens too. She was the one who adopted mine. Now she has a huge flock, even turkeys!!

Now I have set up another area for hens in my front yard. I am going to start out with 4 hens and see how it goes. I plan on getting my hens on Saturday. If all goes well, I'll be getting 2 black sexlinks that are a year old, and 2 Plymouth Rocks that were born in the spring.

I am not too familiar with different breeds. I started investigating recently, and must say it is very interesting to learn about the qualities of different breeds. I can see how many of those who have the space for chickens would be inclined to get a whole lot of them!

I would love to connect with some other area chicken owners. I think forums are great for trading info and learning from one another.

Well, I'm not in your area, but

Hello Dave
And welcome to BYC!
You've picked two great breeds to start over with!
I have black sex links and I'd put them up against ANY breed of chicken as far as attitude and being docile!
Sometimes I wonder if they are not cross bred with a cat! They do love attention.
Again, welcome to BYC!

Well, I have been spending more time at home recently, and I felt it was a challenge I could take on once again. Also, my girlfriend and her 2 year old son give it a thumbs up and agree to look after them if I go out of town.

This was also my 3rd year of gardening and I keep learning and getting encouraged by the previous seasons' experience. It just makes sense to have a few chickens in the mix, especially if you like eggs!
