Hello! My husband and I are new to raising chickens. We were given them in late September, and while I was skeptical at first, I've learned to love my girls. We are in the process of extending our flock, and I'm hopeful for a smooth introduction. We have two Rhode Island Reds, with various other breeds coming (including a silkie -- yay!), so any tips might help. I look forward to joining this chicken world.

Just make sure the silkie can evade the big girls while the pecking order is being settled.

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

I would recommend you get about four silkies, just in case there would be issues with larger chickens picking on them, they can hang out together that way.

Also, you might want to visit our Learning Center as there are tons of member articles about raising chicks and chickens and you might find something helpful to you!
