I never thought I would have chickens....most of my friends think it’s hysterical, so neither did they! But the girls are fun! I’m sure I’ll enjoy it more once I know what I’m doing and stop worrying.
We have 6 girls, not laying yet. 2 Rhode Island Reds, 2 Barred Rocks and 2 Easter eggers. I think.
They were 10 days old when we brought them home, all fluffy. We brooded them for about 5 weeks and started putting them in the coop/run during the day. Well, I was able to bring them back inside twice. They carried on so much and it was warmer than 60 degrees at night and they had most of their feathers. So I piled bedding in the nesting boxes and they’ve been out there ever since. I miss them being close by and ready for cuddles but I don’t miss the smell! No free range yet-our yard is fenced and they’ll only be out in the evening when we are home, but I still want to make sure they are big enough to teach a lesson to anything foolish enough to get by me.
Looking forward to the wealth of information here. So much to learn!
