We're mainly looking for good laying breeds, but I figure it wouldn't hurt to have some just for fun
I'm going to head over to a hatchery sometime later this week and check out the buffs and silkies he has available.
I can see the neighbors dogs being a real issue at my house. I'm almost tempted to get a really mean rooster if I start to have any issues with them. We don't have any fences up around here, and the dogs are CONSTANTLY in everyone's yard (beside their own). We're getting a coop that can be locked up at night and I want to keep it pretty close to the house so I can keep a better eye on them for the time being.
Make sure you have a good secure run for the chickens so they can come out, even when you're not there. Use hardware cloth so predators can't pull the chicks/chickens thru the wire. There might be more than dogs to worry about. If the dogs become a problem, catch them and bring them to the pound!
