Hello folks am new to the world of BYC.
Dont have any chickens/hens yet am trying to learn as much as I can before any decisions are made.
So thought I would join up

I am Steve and am from Norfolk in the UK and would be looking at getting around 3 birds which would be kept in a coop / run and then allowed free run of the garden during the day.

hi folks.

I kinda like the look of the Orpington. Been reading up on them and must say have not really come across a bad word about them. Like I say I am not after a big flock just a few to keep each other company and enjoy the freedom of my backyard

will try and check out the other threads.
yeah been checking out the reviews only cons seem to be they all look the same and are low down the pecking order which is fine as will only have a few of them and all the same breed. Do you let them run around the garden when you are out or do you lock them away as soon as you leave the house?

If you have predators in your area, I would recommend they stay in their coop and enclosed run . When you are out and about with them, they could have some free range time. Welcome to Backyard chickens.

Just clicked on your link @BantamFan4Life some really good pictures and nice looking birds

Dont think i have many predators, been in the house over a year now and seen a cat twice maybe I have a little fluffy dog but think she has more of an attitude than classed as a predator lol. The area i am thinking of using for a run is about 8m x 5m so is a fair space. I just hate the thought of them being locked up all the time. i work 12 hr shifts 7 days on 7 days off but my missus is at home with my son so is normally some one around during the day.
