Hello everyone, I am very new to having my own chickens as recent as May 2020.
I have bought day-old chicks in two different batches.
The first batch of 3 I call my Golden Girls (coz they are a golden brownish colour), were sexed and bought from a local produce place and are meant to be laying hens.
The second batch of 5 are 4 Plymouth Rock Cross and 1 Frizzle these were not sexed as they were from a private home. Now according to information/cough guesswork, I figured I had 2 cockerels and 3 hens in this batch.
My grandchildren, Elijah 4, and Lillian 2 are enjoying the journey of our chickens very much. They love coming over and feeding and petting them. We built a massive chook pen so they have plenty of space in my backyard.
It has been very gratifying to sit and watch them grow and change. Until (queue ominous music) the dreaded CROWING began this past week lol. Now seeing as I live in town, I am not allowed to have roosters. I knew the day was coming we would need to rehome the roosters. However, telling for certain which is doing my head in.
My favourite "girl Lovey" has crowed along with 2 other Plymouths
I joined this site so I could get some help in sorting my hens from my roosters.. I really do not want to rehome any hens by mistake.. I hope to, with your help have this sorted before my council fines me for my rooster/s
Thanks heaps, have a great day
