In the Brooder
Hello everyone - I'm new to chicken-keeping, but loving every minute of it so far. We got our daughters each a baby Rhode Island Red on Easter (corny?...maybe). We have 4 dogs and unfortunately one of the dogs (who had been docile with them until I went in the house for a few minutes) injured one of the hens - she unfortunately died two days later in spite of careful washing, dressing, rest, etc. The girls were devastated, and to make a long story short, we now have 1 RIR, 3 Delawares, 2 Ameraucanas and 2 Barred Rocks. I built our coop/run, but had to build a significant addition with the new arrivals. Have had so much fun trying to get things just right for them.
Anyway, I guess we'll be happy when they start producing eggs, but that has to be secondary to enjoying them as our pets. I've loved reading all your posts - there is so much to learn, and so much innovation you all share here. I wish you all the best with your chickens!
