Hello, I am typing all the way from the odd state of New Jersey. I currently have no chickens, but I hope to get some in the future if I can. Though at the moment that seems to be a far off dream as I am still living with my parents at 18, nearly 19, years of age and my parents are pretty against the whole chicken thing, mainly the whole bringing in more animals. I also have no clue about what my town thinks about backyard chickens as I haven't found anything online about it, though I've searched and searched.
Now my life isn't at all perfect or remotely normal. I've been pledged by migraines for nearly 7 years now, which has prevented me from finishing high school and going on to collage. Now that doesn't mean I'm not smart or anything, I am perfectly able to complete the GEDs, I'm just having trouble finding somewhere to take a pre-exam review and then the tests themselves; you wouldn't believe how few there are or how many gets canceled due to not enough people signing up and stuff. I'm also unemployed though not from a lack of trying; no one seems to want to hire an 18 year old who's never had a job, not currently in school, hasn't completed high school, and can't drive. Everyone seems to ignore that I've been actively in Girl Scouts for all 13 years, serving countless volunteer hours and achieved the Silver Award. But hey there's not a lot I can do about it by complaining.
Thankfully I've got my pets to cheer me up, I personally own three actually. A nearly four year old black with white cat named Zim who I rescued when he was a tiny kitten off the streets and two Roborovski Dwarf Hamsters, a white nearly year old named Charlotte and an agouti around seven months old named Scarlett. The Robos live in a large 29 gallon tank with a screen top which Zim is not allowed in, but he enjoys watching Charlotte and Scarlett go about their hamster activities through the glass; its his kitty tv. There's three other cats and two dogs in the house too, but they are the family's pets.
In all my free time during the day, when I'm not suffering from a migraine, I roam the internet, researching things that interest me. I've been reading into chickens on and off now for nearly a year now, but these last few months I've been doing lots more reading. I really like this site, it has so much good information in one place and I decided to join. I greatly enjoy all the DIY stuff on this site and I have decided that if I get the ok to go ahead with my chicken plans to do a DIY coop. We have this large old dog house that we got from our neighbor for free a couple of years ago; the dogs don't use it and we only used it a bit for the feral cats that had roamed about town some time ago, but those feral cats have all disappeared. I think it would make a good coop for some chickens.
