Hi and wwelcome to byc from South Africa. Your story touched my heart so. I also once lost a silkie hen who was killed by a neighbours dog. She had been laying an egg when the dog attacked her. It was such a mess. I was devastated. We dug a big hole in the garden and buried her with all her eggs. I gave away my silkies afterwards because our neighbour refused to mend his fence and I knew his dog would continue to be a problem. I didnt want to go through it again. It is many years later now and I have chickens again. I have learnt that the love and joy they bring is much more than the occasional heartache.
