Hello my family is new to being "chicken parents". we (mom and dad....aka Kristen and Mike) had some exposure and experience as kids but that's been a while. we eat lots of eggs in our family. and have wanted our own chickens for a while! We have 4 kiddo's and an acre of property we are homesteading!
We got some easter eggers and sex links (both black and red) with a friend. her old coop was gonna come here with babies but they will be 8 wks next week....and then my speech delayed son saw me looking at blue cochins....and said several sentances (never happens) to tell me he wanted a blue chicken. So momma went on a search for blue chickens...I found a lady local-ish and she was having a hatch....so we went to see them...I figured we might get 4-6....we left with 10
(adding to the 12 we started with, but have since lost one to injury). then the bantam bin at tsc got me.....I really want some silkies...and they had some about 2 week chicks in a bantam bin...and i found a silkie...and you have to get 4, i left with 5
and I need a RLBW.....but i need blue so im getting 3 so i can make sure I'll have a blue one
and I need some olive eggers....and might be getting a splash cochin pullet for my bantam cochin roo who is black....or I might just get a full size black roo
and dont forget the extra silkie im getting...so that puts us over 30
so we quickly went from needeing chickens for eggs to having chickens for fun too...and well...chicken math!!!
oh yeah...and hubby needs a black breasted phoenix
