I've been looking over this site for going on 4 weeks.. well more like 3 and a day or so. I found it when I started worrying about how I should run my incubator. As of right now I am currently caring for my father's chickens as he is always out of town and I'm the only one who can get in and out of his coop. I love his Roo which I named Silkie despite the fact he is a Barred-Rock. He is a sweet rooster as long as you're not messing with his girls, you can pick him up tuck him under your arm and carry him around like a lap dog and he has never pecked anyone that I know of. As for pullets we have 10 production reds that my father bought last year from a tractor supply store and they are all very sweet though some are smarter than others. We even named one S.S. (Super Smart) because she is constantly getting out no matter what we do to keep them fenced in. Currently we have 28 eggs in the bator and are looking forward to our very first hatch. 3 have pipped and I can hear little chirps inside. My father has a rabbit named speckles (he is a holland lop) and I have a Rabbit named Midnight (he is a netherland dwarf), but I also own 2 ducklings, one of which is my husbands. We got married in October and are in the process of fixing up a house that will soon become our home. Luckily my father is getting me started by letting me take some of his current egg layers so that I don't have to wait for my chicks to grow up before we can start collecting eggs.
I look forward to the conversations I know I'm bound to have here, and I've learned a lot of valuable things from this site already. I'm just glad someone thought to come up with this type of forum.
