In the Brooder
Hi! My name is Kristina or Kris for short. I am brand new at having chickens! I am so excited. I got our girls ( I hope all hens lol) a week ago. They are the best. We have 12 Australian Australorps And 3 others that for the life of me I can’t remember the breed. Yikes! I think one of my favorite things about raising our chickens will be the eggs. What can I say we love fresh eggs. But more over my son wants to be a vet and he has fast become the chicken whisperer. This is something we can do together. He isn’t into my vegetable garden (which is quite large).
I have many hobbies. My garden brings me such joy. This will be my first year canning. I am an avid reader. So much so that my husband turned our spare room into a library. I also write lots of handwritten letters and seal them using wax melts and stamps. I enjoying making blankets with loop yarn too. But most of all spending quality time with my faMiley growing our little homestead.
I have been married to my husband for 16 years together for 17. He is a 28 yr army veteran and I am a four year army veteran. We have four kids. Three sons and a daughter as well as a daughter in law. My eldest son and his wife are expecting their first baby! MY FIRST GRAND Baby! My daughter works at our local hospital and is moving to Texas next year. Then we have our two youngest boys whom are in high school.
We live in southern Maine to be close to my parents whom aren’t well.
Wee have two dogs , a peek- a- poo and a black lab. Next spring we are going to get two Nigerian dwarf milking goat kids and one a little older already in milk. So excited about that as well.
My husband is retired Army 1SG and works at the shipyard here in Maine. I was a paramedic, but due to injury I now work as a phlebotomist. I enjoy my work but am hoping to focus more on homesteading.
I actually found BYC website from Pinterest. There are a lot of links that send me to your page. A friend also mentioned your community. I decided to join to be in a community that is as enthusiastic about their chickens as I am. But also a place were I can come with my questions and learn from more seasoned chicken farmers/raisers. I’m so happy I have found this group and am looking forward to learning as much as I can! Thank you for having me.
