I'm new as in don't have the first chicken yet. My husband and I have discussed this for years and have recently decided to go for it. Currently my youngest son and I are cleaning out the brush, etc in the back corner of the yard. Trying to make plans and visualize coop and run area. We have a 3 yr old dog who I think will be good with the chicken (we'll definitely be aware and carefull when he's out there). Been reading on everything : how to acclimate dogs with chickens, breeds, feed, training to use hutch etc.

We're going to have tons of questions and getting all answers from books is unreal to me. I want to hear from others, opinions and errors and joys.

I guess that's enough intro for now. I hope to connect with you all soon.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. My children and granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loved our chickens and made lap pets of the calmer and more gentle breeds.
