(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
  • I raised chickens and ducks when I was younger, living with my parents. I've head ducks several years on my own, but this is the first year I've had chickens at my own house.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
  • I have 3 chicks and 2 ducks
(3) What breeds do you have?
  • I have 2 Lavendar Orpingtons and 1 Blue Rock chick; the ducks are Welsh Harlequins
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
  • I love watching them grow and developing their own personalities. I love to be outside, so they help keep me entertained (and help with the bugs).
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
  • I enjoy going to the lake, working in my garden, doing yard work, anything to get me outside really!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
  • I grew up on a small hobby farm and plan to eventually have one of my own (starting with the birds). My plan is to have cattle and goats one day as well. I am a nurse and also have two cats and a pitbul that also keep me company. The cats and the dog love having birds around as well.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
  • I found it through Pinterest I believe and have encountered several articles on a FB page for ducks and chicks. I decided to finally join because I figured this could be helpful for me and my new babies.
