My name is Richard. I'm a care giver in Seattle. I'm cutting my clients down to one so he can move to Orcas Island where he grew up, and take my family along buying us a sustainable contained urban farmhouse. A portion is a chicken coop. I've gotten to design it, and numerous articles here have been invaluable in helping the process along. Thank you all. I can house Max 24 birds. I plan to have two or three Cornish to propagate with a Cornish roster, 4 or 5 Australorp hens, and being Polish I'd like a few crested running around and I'd keep a rooster and try to brood fertile eggs under a Cornish if the Polish hen didn't want to. I plan to buy my initial flock as adults from locals, hope that's not to ambitious. Since research can only go so far, I'd love to meet someone here in Seattle, and get some hands on experience, I also expect to learn as I go. any help or suggestions would be welcome.

Hi Richard, and welcome to BYC!!!!

Sounds like you have quite the plans! I don't live in Seattle, or anywhere near it, but if you have any questions, I'd be glad to help!

Be wary when buying grown chickens. Some people will sell sick chickens but won't tell you, so watch out! Good luck!

Some people will also sell you hens past their prime. You can't check teeth on a chicken. The Washington thread is wild and woolly and very fast paced. If you want to check it out - just jump in fast and keep moving.
