Hello there!

My name is Pete. I live in Kalgoorlie Western Australia, with my five chooks!

I have four 1 year-old Hy-Lines, named Cumin, Coriander, Cardamom, and Clover, and a seven month-old Leghorn named Chamomile.

I am relatively new to raising chickens. When I was little my paternal grandparents kept chickens on their farm. Then when I was about eight my sister and I had a bantam chook and rooster for about a year, until we found the rooster in the deep freezer! His partner soon joined him, and while we were both a little sad we were pleasantly surprised that they tasted so nice!

But I don't think I could eat my own chooks now...

When I used to live in Perth I shared a house with a friend who had a big flock of chooks as well as three ducks, who all laid mountains of eggs!

Part of the reason I got chickens was they could be somewhat semi-independent, since I work away a lot so couldn't keep a dog or cat as a pet. I provide them with 20kg feeder boxes, water containers fitted with hoses on solar-powered tap timers, and they free range across my whole backyard and front yard.

I found this website and forum via the DuckDuckGo search engine, to seek advice on managing chicken bullying.

I shall post some photographs of my chooks soon!

Here's my darling Clover. She was flying over the backyard fence to my patio to lay eggs on one of my patio chairs. Then while I was away she went broody...as you can see here. She would purr every time I passed her!

I cured her broodiness by placing some fertilised eggs underneath her. After a few weeks one of them hatched into a sweet little Leghorn who I named Chamomile. I will post some pictures of her and my other chookies soon.
