Hello all! I'm a long time lurker of this forum so I thought it was high time I joined. I am new to keeping chickens, I just hatched out my first chicks from eggs that I got from an amazing woman who has been keeping a mixed flock of rare heritage breeds for 18 years. I hatched out 44 chicks and gave 8 to my friend so now I have 36 seven week old chicks. They are all kinds of mixed breeds, some are potentially cochin bantams, salmon favorelles, and ameraucanas, and others are hybrids of all kinds of different undetermined breeds. I have bantams and standard size, feather leg and clean leg, bearded and not bearded, etc. I have about half pullets and half cockerels. I think we will keep a couple roosters and butcher the rest for meat.
This has been so much fun so far, chickens are so fascinating and fun. I can't wait for them to keep growing!
