New member here, just wanted to introduce myself...
- I am (about to be) new to chicken-raising, and egg-collecting, etc, etc...
New chicks (10) are due to be delivered from the hatchery in late February.
Coop construction is almost complete, and the covered run will be finished soon.
- I have ordered a mix of Barred Rock, Cinnamon Queen, and Austra White chicks, for (hopefully) good egg-laying in this Southeast US (east-central Alabama) climate.
- After many tons of research on starting off with mail-order(ed) chicks, I have read up on, and built, a Mama Heating Pad brooder, and plan to start the girls off in the house for about the first week or so, then move them and the brooder box setup out to the (unheated) garage for the duration of the brooding time; I anticipate a move of the girls out to the coop/run after about 8 weeks.
I will post some pics of my version of the Mama Heating Pad brooder, in case anyone is interested in evaluating/critiquing my handiwork....
