My husband and I have been "chicken sitting" our daughter's five hens since she got married last September. We've got Frances, the Plymouth Rock queen of the flock; Dorothy, the beige/gray Araucauna; Nan, the blue Buff Orpington; and Jeannie, the black Araucauna. Unfortunately, we lost one of the original flock of five last month--Annabel, a beautiful Golden Laced Wyandotte, who passed away under rather mysterious circumstances: She was found in the dust bathing area of the run appearing to have suffocated while the other girls were "bathing" on top of her.

Our daughter flew our "coop" and left us with her hens until she and hubby can find a suitable home with backyard. Needless to say, these "girls" have grown on us. She actually maintains a blog called The Chicken Dance in which she has chronicled these chickens' lives since they arrived in the mail nearly two years ago. It's been fun, and we're delighted to have found a community of chicken folks with whom to swap our tales of life in the hen house!
