Hello To BYC Community

Hello and :welcome

Glad to have you here! I live in the city too, although we're allowed a few hens here, just no roosters. They are always escaping from the run and coming up to the patio to say hello in the morning.

I do agree with you about the beak trimming, but I suppose you can't help that. Sounds like you're taking care of them real well!

Anyway, don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have, and enjoy the site. :D

Thank you to everyone for the warm welcome. Such a friendly place. One of my pullets laid two soft eggs yesterday that were connected. Eeeeek. I thought it was going to be my first case of an egg-bound bird as she spent some time pushing out the poo. Then she went to the nest box and I did peek in and she was just sitting there. Peeked a bit later and she was standing up with two soft eggs, one oval and one round, both small, and connected by this thing that looked for the life of me like an umbilical cord. My first pullet to lay, who is now laying regular eggs, had a soft shell egg as well (as her first). She just popped it out right on the ground. I guess it must be common for a first egg to be soft. They have calcium.
