Hello to everyone from Mid-Michigan

Hey there, just wanted to say Hi to everyone here. My family and I are new to chickens, but I think we are doing pretty good so far. We have 2 Ida Red hens, a Bantum Rooster named Rowdy who loves to chase the kids, and 3 Barred Rocks, supposedly 2 hens and 1 rooster but I'm not sure. We are slowly expanding as we go. Hopefully next spring we will hatch a couple of Barred Rocks, we need a couple more layers and I think it would be a great learing experience for the kids. We free range the small flock as much as possible when we are home. Well I look forward to sharing experiences with everyone and getting advice when needed. Hope to hear from you all soon.

Free ranging is the awesome way to go... and also a bit of a touchy topic round here, our chickens and our vegetable patch don't really mix very well.

you will do just fine the barred is one of the best brooder egg layer and meat bird out thir if you go to missing one this spring don`t get to upset see the bared like to go off find a buckit a sit she will come back with a nice cluch of bitty`s

Hello and welcome! We free range our birds about half the time, and we have had a one time big loss, but really enjoy having the birds out and about. So, we make sure our corgi stays out with them on free range days! Those yolks are prettier for it!
