Hello! My family and a neighbor are trying to raise some chickens for meat, hopefully organically and free range. We received our chicks yesterday and are so excited to get started. I appreciate all the kindly advise and helpful tips!

Good luck with your meat birds, they sure are tasty, especially when raised out doors on pasture!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your meat birds.

If you've gotten Cornish x meat birds they don't do free ranging, they sit in front of the feeder and will eat till they die -literally. Some growers recommend leaving the feed out 12 hours a day and removing it for 12 - to curb their explosive growth somewhat. If they aren't processed early enough, their legs and organs give out and they die anyway.
