Hi! I am a total newbie to chickens (I don't even own any yet)! Our family has become interested because 1.) Our neighbor has a small flock and we've had the opportunity to chickensit for them this summer and 2.) A 4H recycling project. Originally, one of my dd's wanted to make a portable coop totaly out of recycled materials (which she did- sadly it was too large for the fair). Now my eldest dd is making (still portable) a larger coop (again recycled- its taking us a little bit longer, but she is 3/4 done- will post pic when it is done). We are thinking about getting the following- Dorkings for dd #1, Silkies for dd#2, and debating bantam Wyandottes or Polish for dd#3 (anyone have an opinion?) I've tried to research these breeds and I am hoping they will be a good match. The girls want to show them at the fair and spoil them silly

. I am excited that we will have pets that feed us too! Anyway, I am at the obsessive reading stage, and will have questions as I go- this is a great site!! Thanks!
