My husband and I live in the Texas Hill Country between San Antonio and Austin. We have 2 children (1.5yr and 4yr) with another on the way. This is our first year raising any kind of bird/poultry. My grandfather grew up raising all kinds of birds (chickens, guinees, turkeys, ducks), and he's helped us a lot.
We currently have in our first set chickens a set of 4-week old Rhode Island Reds, and a set 3-week old Black Australorps.
We also have 3 Pekin Ducks, about 6 months old and laying eggs. 2 ladies (Daphne and Piper), and 1 drake (Quackula). My 4-yr old son named the drake.
We currently have 4 RIR and 4 Australorps. The Australorps were purchased as pullets, but the RIR's were from a Straight Run and I'm starting to think they are all 4 cockerels. Still unsure what we will do about that.
We also have a very fat and old house cat, along with 3 dogs. An 11 yr old Yorkie, a 12 yr old Huskey/Pit mix, and 1 yr old Aussiedoodle.
