Hi everyone, we're from Central Indiana, near the Illinois border and we are sort of new to owning chickens. We live in a really tiny town of only 50 people and have an acre of land. I owned one chicken several years ago, but now that we're out in the country and many people around here raise their own chickens for eggs and for show, we decided to follow suit. We went on the advise of several different people that told us to order 30+ chicks from a hatchery if we wanted at least 10 to survive, so we did, but so far all but one have lived and we now have 36 chicks and two ducks. I'm having a coop custom built for them shortly and next Spring we're ordering another coop for just our egg layers. We currently have silkies, sebrights, three types of cochins, silver laced wyandottes, amber sexlinks, one belgian bearded d'uccle, and a chick who we aren't sure what it is yet. And then we have two mallard ducklings. Everyone is thriving, happy, and spoiled. My girls plan to show as many of them as they possibly can at the 4-H fair next summer. I may be asking lots of questions on here as I go along. It's nice to know that there is a community of people knowledged in poultry husbandry. I plan to visit this forum often. So, hello to everyone on here!
