Hi! Newly registered member, several year lurker whenever I had chicken questions. Not great at introductions, so I'll use the template questions provided.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
My Grandma had several hundred layer chickens growing up that I help pick eggs. I started raising pastured meat chickens in 2020, adding ducks and turkeys the next year.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Just picked various amounts up at local farm store when they were $1 each. So, about 20 young pullets, I think (they don't stay still to count
). Around 6 have started laying.
(3) What breeds do you have?
I don't remember the breeds, but I know I have 2-3 blue egg layers, 2-3 green egg layers, with the rest of them being various brown egg layers.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Fresh eggs in the fridge and high quality meat in the freezer.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I'm a life-long gamer, including video, board and cards.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Half of my family lives in a city, and the other half lives in the country. I've gone between both my whole life.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
