I have been raising silkies for 6 years. I built my own coop. I would like to learn to hatch some eggs some day but they are so delicious. I share them with the neighborhood. It is nice to be online and part of the community.

Welcome! I'm new to this too! Raised Chickens for over 25 years and then moved to Florida. Didn't have chickens for 5 years and now just getting back into it. Its like raising your grandchildren. Some things you remember and some things are totally new (forgetful I am)

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

Personally, I have found the Topic of the Week articles a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out

Silkies are a breed that generally make the best broody mothers .Though hatchery stock often has that trait bred out of them. If you have a silkie rooster, when one of your girls goes "broody," she would hatch out the fertile eggs for you. Much easier than using an incubator and mama also teaches the chicks how to be chickens.
