I just recently began this new hobby, which I'm enjoying completely! I'm in the process of putting the final touches on our hen house and have begun collecting my new chicks! Although I'm new to owning chickens, I'm not new to the responsibility or fun they can be :)

So far I have acquired a few rhode island red hens that are already laying. Once my hen house is finished they will be moving in. Then in another month I'll be adding my first chicks I've been brooding in my kitchen. Then another month later I'll have another brooder of chicks that will be ready to add. Altogether I'll have 4 breeds of chickens. Rhode island reds, Plymouth Barred Rocks, Ameraucana, and Salmon Favorellos.

I cannot wait to start reaping the benefits of all my chickens! Its something I've been wanting to do for many years, just never was in a location that I could raise them on. Now we live on a 10 acre spread in the hills of Pennsylvania. So peaceful and perfect for a homestead!

Hope to chat with everyone and enjoy the community here :)

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sounds like your new homestead is lovely. Looks like chicken math is taking over your coop for sure! Good luck with your new chicks, and you will have a nice little flock and colorful egg basket when everybody is laying. you might also like to check out the PA state thread for any neighbors https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/248345/pennsylvania-unite

Welcome to BYC!

You do sound EGG-cited!!! Enjoy all your new adventures and welcome to our flock!

Welcome to BYC. Don't integrate those chicks into the flock until they are as large as the adult hens. There will be squabbling.
