Hello!!

I have been visiting this site since spring, and finally decided to join, as I am new to the wonderful world of chickens! I have 4 hens. One is a New Hampshire Red named "Rustina". Her original name was Cooper, because we got her from the straight-run bin at our local farm store... I guess we just got lucky to pick a hen! She laid her first egg 2 days ago!

We have 2 Black Sex Links named Cruella De Vil and Maleficent, because they are both very bossy and slightly evil lol. They love to hog all of the food and treats we put out, but are supposed to be productive layers, so I'm not complaining! Last, but certainly not least is Snow, a White Leghorn who is a very people-friendly, but is easily bossed by the others. When we were still raising them from chicks, she was the first to jump up to the rim of the large plastic tub they were in!

I am looking forward to asking any questions on this forum!

Haha thank you! It's funny I saw that someone on this site named their chicken Oprah Henfry and I loved it so much it became my username!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. A lot of us were lurkers before joining. ) X2 on your user name. ) I also love the names of your chickens. My granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) names our hens after Disney princesses. Congratulations! It's always so "egg"citing to get that first egg. Black Sex Links are my favorite hens as they are very friendly and hardy, egg laying machines. I've raised them for years (along with dozens of other breeds and hybrids), and they have been my best layers, consistently churning out more than 300 large, brown eggs per hen per year. White Leghorns are also laying machines. You should get loads of eggs from those three girls. If you haven't done so already, definitely our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is loads of useful information there.
