Good morning, and it's nice to meet you y'all! Just thought I'd jump over here and introduce myself...because I have a feeling I'm going to be using these forums a lot in the next few months. My name is Lauren and my husband and I just bought an acre in NE North Carolina, and I'm ancy to start my chicken coop and farms up. We're both pretty new at this, though I'm more experienced in gardening than he is, and neither of us have ever kept chickens or anything like that (we're both in the military, and I'm working on my masters in History, he's a computer nerd). So, where we are right now: I promised him I would wait until the spring to start with chickens...but that's not going to happen. I think I'm going to start brooding quinea keets sometime this week, and then transition to chickens depending on how this works out. We've got an old shed in the backyard that I *think* I could make into a coop, and I'm slightly worried about how much trouble the guineas might cause with the neighbors. But, by the time the keets are ready to be housed, I should have the coop done to encourage them to come home, at least at night. BUT, one neighbor has horses and I hear the other side has roosters (every darn morning), so I feel like we're a pretty animal friendly neighborhood, and I know my county, guineas are everywhere. So we'll see! I'll definitely be back once I get the babies, and I'll sure be asking for advice on here! Any noob advice is more than welcome. And I'll be running to you guys when my husband finds out I'm picking up the keets tomorrow.
