Thank you for a warm welcome! Indeed, I did do my research well in advance and decided on buff orpingtons right away. Mine are about 11 weeks now. Still quite some time before the first eggs but we're enjoying time with them tremendously.

The idea of getting the chickens for my backyard originated about year ago and after the initial optimism I actually almost gave up and decided not to bother. It was really only by accident when I discovered the quite affordable chicken coops being sold online and decided to go with the pre-boxed set rather than building one on my own. Still did some homework by preparing the site and making sure the coop is predator safe. I'm quite happy with the setup and look forward to spending few long years with the pair.
