Hi! Really excited to have found this site! I'm completely new to raising chickens, but after just about 8 weeks of having them, they have completely won me over! Our flock consists of 11 chickens and 2 ducks, and I'm considering adding some guineas to the mix too. We just moved from the suburbs and city out in the Rocky Mountains to the hills of upstate New York last year and along with a 3 year old and an 18 month old we also have a little dog and 2 fish. The chickens and ducks have let our little dog know who's in charge now. Poor pup. I originally thought of chickens for eggs, and tick control, which is why I'm also considering the guineas. With our newly acquired 12 acres, we can use all the help we can get! I'm excited to get to know more people on here and other friends of the flock. :)

Welcome to Backyard chickens. I have heard guineas are the best tick eaters - :sick
I'm no professional on Guineas, but we have two which we incubated. I think we have a boy and a girl. They only make noise when we excite them with visitors or at about 5-6pm. They tend to bully our chooks a bit, so we keep them separate. If you have any questions, I'll try to answer.:D:old

Thank you! I'm very much considering getting a dozen or so, we have the space. I'm wondering if they would hang around in our wooded area, or if they'd just wander into neighboring properties? We have about 12 acres, but there's no fencing or anything (like that'd keep them in anyways...) Our tick problem doesn't seem too terrible right now, but I keep hearing how awful it is in surrounding areas, so it's only a matter of time. We've had 2 relatives contract lyme in the last month, so I want to do anything to fight them off!
