Hello

Hi Debz, nice to meet you. Hope you will enjoy BYC as much as we do. Cute setup but, I couldn't do all that bending.
I find myself avoiding things that make me bend down too... But the "Girls" are making me more active and I'm grateful for that. It's nice to meet you Drumstick Diva. XX

Hi Debz and welcome to BYC :frow We're so happy that you've decided to join us:ya Nice setup. You can put in nest boxes now. Anywhere from 18-26 weeks they'll start to lay.

Yes I'm in Pahiatua, Wairarapa.
Can I ask you how old they will be when I should give them nesting boxes? Right now they are 18weeks old.
I would get get nest boxes for them now. They like to lay eggs in them and it keeps them safe. Average age of first egg varies by breed but between 21 and 27 weeks old. Some hatchery breeds start at about 18 weeks though

If you are referring to going broody and hatching eggs, not many will ever do that. That has been bred out of most breeds, especially hatchery chickens
