I am a new Hen parent. 2 Blue Asian hens. They matured in size over the winter and actually started laying in January. I built a coop from scratch and have made adjustments to the locations of their food and water etc.

What I like about them is that they are simple to take care of. I am an organic produce warehouse mgr, so I have access to a lot of healthy food for them. At this point, if the chickens see me they run towards me like little children.

My main questions are related to nutrition for layers

--and--

their coop area needs and layout

--also--

improving their water supply

Hello and welcome to BYC

Here’s a link to the Articles section - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/ There you’ll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping chickens - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs.

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

G’Day from down under newbiedood :frow Welcome!

This is a great article on coop and run area: How Much Room Do Chickens Need

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

I see that Pork Pie mentioned the Topic of the Week articles and I just want to second how helpful they are. There are previous discussions on feeding the flock which you may be interested in.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)
