I am brand new to chickens!! My husband and I went a little crazy with it, we talked about getting 6-8 chicks to get us started and expand our flock next year. That being said we are up to 14 chicks and 2 ducklings. We have Rhode Island Reds, Barred Rocks, Silver Wyandotte, Naked Necked (my husband picked them only because of their looks) and Ameraucanas, I think they are actually EE. I found out about BackYardChickens by googling every chicken question imaginable to prepare myself for chicken parenthood. I am a K-2 PE teacher and a JH coach. I enjoy hiking, gardening/ landscaping and spending time with family/ friends. We have two fur babies a German Shepherd named Gage and a husky named Nyx. I'm looking forward to being able to post questions and reading the other things that people have experienced!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock and/or other critters, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Including your general location on your profile will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.
