Newbie chicken mom here with a small backyard flock consisting of 5 hens (2 buff orpingtons, 1 Ameraucana, 1 barred rock, and 1 RIR), 1 Ameraucana Roo, and a chick whose breed and sex are TBD (it came as a package deal with one of the Buff Orps.) I've had the Ameraucanas since they were 10 weeks, and added the rest about two weeks ago. Only the mama is laying for me so far.
I also share my home with two young boys (6 and 2), two large dogs, 3 cats, 4 guppies, an endless string of foster dogs. Oh, and the husband- who is a saint for putting up with all of the above.
I'm a veterinary technician by trade and an animal rescuer by choice. I'm looking forward to learning all things chicken!
