I've been lurking the forum for the past few weeks, gathering info to help me hatch my new little farm. It seemed every time I asked google a question I ended up here... why I didn't sign up sooner I really don't know.

I recently moved onto an acreage again after living in town for far longer than I wanted. Of course I knew as soon as I got this place that I wanted critters, but it had to wait until the lovely northern Canada snow finally decided to leave (it's almost gone, yay) because the property was completely undeveloped. I am currently incubating Barnevelders (due the 18th), Wyandottes (20th), Welsh Harlequin ducks (27th), and Chinese geese (May 1st). So far of the 32 chicken eggs I started with I've had 3 infertile, and one quitter. All of the geese and ducks are still doing well (following the goose incubation guide posted by Pete on this forum), so fingers crossed. I'm very much planning on getting a few Sebastopols as well, as soon as I find a breeder in Canada that has decent looking stock and doesn't mind shipping.

Currently my only "farm animal" is a Rouen cross duckling (the one in my avatar picture) that was given to me because it was having problems walking. The previous owner was splinting it's leg, but it turns out she was feeding medicated chick starter and not supplementing niacin, so that was it's problem. It has since completely recovered, and I have named him/her Ducky for the time being until I know if it's a boy or girl. I'm really curious to know what it will look like as an adult, the mixed group of ducks it came from were Rouen, Ancona, Khaki Campbell, Cayuga and a single Pekin. Definitely Rouen based on colour/markings, but it's black & yellow feet are making me think it may possibly be mixed with an Ancona? Time will tell.

So yeah, that's a bit about me. I'm not exactly sure what else to write, so I guess I'll leave it at that :)
