Hello everyone!
My name is Chelsey. I'm 27 and I live in Southeast South Carolina with my husband and our 2 year old. I'm going to go ahead and fill out the template provided to tell you all a bit about me/my flock.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

I am new to chickens, however my husband is not. He grew up running an animal rescue with his family that eventually morphed into a farm.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

Right now I have 12, but I'm picking up 6 new babies later today!

(3) What breeds do you have?

3 10 wk old barred rock pullets
2 10 wk old buff Orpington pullets
1 8 wk old white bantam silkie (roo?)
1 8 wk old bantam EE
5 7 wk old Cochins (4 probable roos, 1 pullet) 2 white roos, 1 blue pullet, 1 partridge roo?, and 1 Cochin roo that is a lavender color and barred?

And today I'm picking up 3 1 wk old lavender mottled orps and 3 2 wk old black mottled orps

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

So far, it has been building the coop and run. My husband and I don't normally get to do projects together (hello toddler!) So that has been a lot of fun. Our flock is pretty young, but I'm sure that we will enjoy them!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I like gardening, sewing, crochet/knitting, painting, hiking, just general crafting and outdoor type things.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

My husband Dustin and I have been married for 8 years this October. We have 1 child, a 2 year old daughter named Imogen. I am a stay at home mom and my husband works in a freezer facility that ships out chicken We live in SE South Carolina. We have 2 dogs, a 1 year old chocolate lab Jupiter, and a 4 year old white husky Luna. We also have an 8 year old fluffy calico cat named Zoie. Most of my extended family keep chickens so I have lots of resources locally if I need them! I am really excited to see my flock grow and hopefully lays some eggs.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?

Google! I joined because I need some help sexing my chicks and this seemed to be a helpful community.

Hello Chelsey and welcome to BYC. I hope that you enjoy your time here.

This is a useful link of “How to” BYC guides to take a look at announcements-feedback-issues-guides.3. I’d suggest including your location using the guide in the link above. You can use this link to contact members in your area - Find your State's thread.

Best wishes

Welcome to BYC Chelsey. It is, indeed, a welcoming community, made up of lots of people who are kind, knowledgeable and willing to help others.

Your flock sounds diverse and lovely. You and I share some common hobbies, although I hope you are a better knitter/crocheter than I am!

Good luck with the coop-building project, and enjoy your future eggs!
