Hello!!

Hi! :frow and thank you! I stay at home during the entire week, it's a little annoying but I have to wake up super early to look after the birds and then I walk to the train station. I only have to change trains once and it gets me there in 45 minutes! If I went in a car I think it would be 2 hours because it's a really strange windy route and there's a lot of traffic 24/7, and the train stops right next to my school. Plus I like the whole aesthetic of being in a uniform on a train early in the morning lol! Trains are cool :wee
Trains and uniforms are definitely cool. And good for you getting up and taking care of the chickens before your long trip to school! :bow

Welcome to Backyard Chickens, so glad you joined the flock. I had friends in Australia many years ago. I used to hybridize Streptocarpus plants and had some with variegated leaves. My Aussie friends where eager to have some but with all the red tape, etc. too expensive for them to get plants and then pay for quarantine.

The only way to send any were seeds. So I was able to send them batches of seeds.
One excellent hybridizer sent me photos of the variegated plants that grew from the seed.

He in turn sent me seeds from his yellow flowering hybrids. The color was very rare here and they sold extremely well. All I can recall was his name was Charles. I'm elderly and my memory isn't so great but, if I allow some time to pass- I'm sure the rest of his name will come up.

Hi! And thank you! I just googled what Streptocarpus plants look like, they are very beautiful! I think my grandma has some of those, she loves gardening. She used to sell her pretty rose plants to the entire neighbourhood, but now she's older she just looks after them herself. Gardening sounds like a really fun hobby, I know a bit about it because of my grandpa and grandma teaching me when I was really young. Mum and dad never understood it but I've always thought I would like to be a florist when I'm older! They would probably never let me though, I think they're planning to have me sent straight to medical school when I graduate, but I still think it would be amazing! :wee

I have some cousins who live on the island with you. It's been years since I've talked with them. Wish I could find them again.

Hi!! :frow Thank you, and also good luck with your cousins! Where abouts in australia do they live? I know it's super unlikely but maybe I might have seen them before? Small world I guess

Well 1st, IIRC they lived near one of the big five cities(?) Near the coastline? That was over 12 years ago.... My Mom & grandparents have passed so I'm trying to find which cousins 1000 miles north of me might know what's up with them over the horizon. Right now their names are fogged over. Thanks for asking AND yes the world is getting smaller as I have the "Kevin Bacon game getting smaller for me every year!"
