Hello

:welcome Ask us all of your questions! Do you have a coop yet? A heat source for the chicks?
I have had 9 hens for about a year now, I have bought a Americana Rooster that is now 6 months old. I’ve had him for 4 months and he has yet to breed with the hens, crow, or show any signs that a roosters would normally do. What is wrong?

Welcome to BackYard Chickens Hayden! You will find that chicken raising is very easy. A chicken can live in the wild without being fed or anything as they have a great ability to forage for their food. You only need to provide safety from predators, a place to roost and lay eggs, clean water and food. Feathers are the warmest covering so they usually do very well in very cold climates. You didn't say where you were, so I don't know your weather conditions. Do you already have your chickens? You will find answers to all your questions from many very experienced "chicken people" here! Again, WELCOME! :D

It usually isn’t too hot or cold around this time and I provide all my chickens with fresh food, water, bedding, and a heat source

Ameraucana is a breed that is quite slow to mature. At 4 months they may seem very immature! I have a 5 month rooster that still does not crow or behave as an adult in the flock even now. He acts like a baby! He cheeps like a baby still and gives way to all the others! It takes time for them to mature. The other breed that is very slow to mature is the Brahma. Give your boy time, he will develop into a teen with raging hormones and start going after the girls with gusto in a few more months!

If your chickens are all 4 months old or more, they don't need a heat source, even in snow. Their feathers and a place out of winter winds will keep them warm.
