(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I have been raising chickens for 10 years. I started with 3 bantam easter eggers
In my suburban back yard. 6 years ago I moved out to my farm and increased my flock.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have about 40 chickens.
(3) What breeds do you have?
When I first moved to the farm, I breed binged. I have Plymouth Rocks, Ameraucanas, Light Brahmas, Salmon Favorelles, Black Copper Marans, Buff Orpingtons, Icelandics, Cream Crested Legbars, Mille Fleur d'Uccle, one Hamburg and some ducks, turkeys and a guard goose.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I love the sense of security from raising my own food.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I raise American Guinea Hogs, and Nigerian Dwarf Goats. I plant a huge veggie garden every year. I knit, crochet and sew. I also make journals and mixed media books.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I worked full time as an EMT for 12 years, I work one day a week for the same ambulance company as a dispatcher now, but spend most of my time here on my homestead.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome
I read a lot of posts over the years, and almost every time I google a question about poultry, I find the answer here, so I thought I may as well join!
