(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
My family always had chickens growing up. I haven't had them in about 5 years (a couple of moves), but now that we own our house and have time to build our dream coop, we decided to get back into it. Also, I have four boys who can eat through a couple dozen eggs in a day!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Just picking up 12 today.

(3) What breeds do you have?
4 each of: Rainbows (not sure if this is a real breed or just that they ay colorful eggs- I'm hoping for chicks with psychedelic feathers, but I think I'll probably be disappointed!), Isa Browns, and Light Brahmas. Also preordered two Guinea keets that will be ready in early June.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Zen chicken watching, bug and tick removal, fresh eggs that actually taste delicious (and are orange!)

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Art, art and art. You can bet I will be doing some chicken paintings soon! Also gardening, reading, being outside, and being home.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Four boys- almost 10 to almost 16.
One partner- a gentle giant of a guy who loves to maple sugar, build things, tie flies, fish, and sit by the backyard campfire. He's a high school math teacher.
Me: high school art teacher, mom, see hobbies above
OMG- I forgot our floor babies! Poppy- cat, almost 2, hellion, and the reason we have mesh over the chicks brooder. Josey- old lady black lab, blind and deaf and sweet as can be.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D
Google search for "how to care for backyard chickens". I clicked on it and joined.

Welcome from Georgia, the Poultry capital of the world (2018).. Glad you have joined this chicken crazy board.

Here is a quick link to the articles area, lots of info on this forum, just look around. Also if you have a specific question the search engine (top right) is actually very good..
